Tell us about YASA.
YASA stands at the leading edge of e-motor innovation and development, specialising in advanced axial flux motor technology. Our motors deliver up to four times the power of those used in nearly all electric vehicles on the market today, while being approximately 50 per cent smaller and lighter, making them highly efficient and space-saving. This unique combination of power and compactness makes our motors ideal for high-performance applications across multiple sectors.
With our technology already integrated into some of the most forward-looking electric motor applications, YASA is now poised to grow further as part of Mercedes-Benz. Our team of over 500 skilled engineers, designers, and innovators operates from facilities in Oxfordshire and Welshpool, where we are developing the next generation of axial flux e-motors and control systems.
In early 2026, YASA will expand to a new, purpose-built facility located just north of Bicester, designed to foster further collaboration and innovation in e-motor technology. This state-of-the-art site will bring together the majority of our team, offering a cutting-edge environment tailored for advanced engineering, research, and development. At YASA, we are passionate about pushing the boundaries of electric mobility, and our upcoming move reflects our commitment to continued growth and technological leadership.
What career opportunities do you have for graduates and young engineers?
YASA offers exceptional career opportunities for students and early-career engineers who are passionate about innovation and ready to contribute to groundbreaking projects. In our placement programs, we are looking to recruit up to ten university students for both three-month and twelve-month roles, starting in July 2025.
These placements provide hands-on experience in our fast-paced design, development, and manufacturing teams, offering students a unique opportunity to work directly with cutting-edge electric motor technology. Placement roles are available across engineering functions, including development, design, testing, manufacturing, and innovation, allowing students to explore diverse aspects of e-motor technology.
Participants will engage with projects that have a tangible impact on the electric motor landscape, contributing to both current industry applications and emerging e-propulsion solutions. We aim to provide our placement students with exposure to real-world engineering challenges that mirror those faced in today’s industry, equipping them with the adaptability and critical thinking skills essential for professional success.
By participating in this program, students benefit from a high-tech, agile environment where innovative electric motor design meets practical application, enhancing their academic learning with industry insights. YASA’s placement program provides an invaluable, project-focused learning experience, ideal for young engineers seeking to launch impactful careers in advanced technology.
What other qualities are you looking for?
As a lean and agile company that began as a University of Oxford spin-out, YASA offers a dynamic environment that values hands-on experience, creativity, and flexibility. Our rapid growth and diverse projects require team members who are adaptable, resilient, and ready to take on new challenges. We especially value young engineers for their fresh perspectives and proactive approach; with projects that often demand quick adjustments, adaptability and willingness to embrace shifting priorities are essential traits at YASA.
Working here is not only about engaging with cutting-edge technology but also about contributing to a culture where “failing fast” is a pathway to learning. Our iterative design and testing processes foster innovation and allow us to push the boundaries of sustainable transport through advanced electric motor technology. We seek candidates who are open to new ideas, eager to contribute from day one, and passionate about transforming the industry.
Those who thrive at YASA enjoy an evolving work environment, embrace learning opportunities, and are genuinely committed to electric motor innovation. Joining YASA means becoming part of a collaborative culture that values initiative, supports professional growth, and provides the resources needed to make a real impact on the future of electric propulsion.
As a potential applicant, how can I make myself stand out from the competition?
To stand out as a candidate at YASA, we look for individuals who demonstrate not only technical skill but also a genuine passion for engineering and innovation. Those who engage in engineering projects or activities outside of academic coursework show a proactive dedication to their field, which we highly value.
In addition to technical ability, YASA emphasizes core values such as collaboration, effective communication, and adaptability. Our company structure is relatively flat, so candidates need to feel comfortable engaging with colleagues at all levels, whether they’re discussing technical details or contributing to team decision-making processes. The ability to work well in a team, display confidence, and maintain a positive attitude in a sociable and inclusive environment is crucial. We look for individuals who embody these values and can thrive within a culture that celebrates innovation, teamwork, and a hands-on approach.
Candidates who are not only highly skilled but also personable, communicative, and eager to be part of a cohesive team stand out. By embracing these principles, applicants can show that they embody the YASA values that drive our innovative work.
Why should I consider a career at YASA?
A career with YASA offers engineers a unique environment where continuous learning, skill development, and project diversity are deeply ingrained in our culture. With the freedom to move between projects, our team members acquire a breadth of experience that few other companies can offer.
At the same time, as part of Mercedes-Benz, YASA benefits from the stability and resources of a global automotive leader, while operating independently on a day-to-day basis. This allows us to maintain a creative, agile approach to innovation.
Our workplace culture is vibrant and welcoming, with a strong focus on teamwork, professional development, and work-life balance. Employees enjoy numerous social functions throughout the year, contributing to a positive, team-oriented environment. YASA encourages engineers to take ownership of their projects, fostering a culture where hard work is recognised, and career progression is both attainable and rewarding.
For engineers looking to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic and supportive company, YASA offers a career path that combines stability, innovation, and personal growth.
