The STEVAL-ISA175V1 evaluation board from STMicroelectronics (ST) implements a three-output isolated flyback designed to supply smart meter and power-line communication systems, on a PCB layout that is designed to fit inside an actual meter in the field. The core of the application is the VIPer26HD, an off-line, high-voltage converter from the ST's VIPerPlus family.
The board, available from Mouser Electronics, includes an onboard VIPer26HD IC with an 800V avalanche ruggedness power MOSFET, PWM operation at 115 kHz with frequency jittering for lower electromagnetic interference (EMI), and current limiting with adjustable set point.
The board also offers onboard soft-start and safe auto-restart after a fault condition. The board’s power supply operates across an extended 90 to 264VAC mains input voltage range (with overvoltage up to 440VAC to also be used with a phase-to-phase connection in a three-phase network.
The RoHS-compliant STEVAL-ISA175V1 evaluation board can help reduce BOM costs and time-to-market when creating smart meter and power-line communication solutions such as home automation and industrial power.
