Kautex Unipart is one of the UK’s first-tier OEM suppliers for vehicle makers such as Jaguar Land Rover, BMW and HondaTM. They manufacture fuel systems at two plants in Coventry, including a new factory that was added in early 2014 to serve a growing customer base as well as increasing volumes for their major customers. Both plants operate 24 hours a day, and require an uninterrupted supply of PPE equipment and consumable supplies.
Previously, Kautex Unipart had managed their inventory with an “open/consigned” storeroom approach: employees simply helped themselves to PPE supplies and consumables, with no restrictions on access and no record of what was taken, or by whom.
The company knew they had a significant amount of untracked inventory on the floor, and outs-of-stocks were a common problem. As a result, Unipart had trouble controlling their consumable spend.
