Video of the week: Toyota meets Tonka
This week’s video features a mashup concept vehicle that will resonate with anyone for whom Tonka Trucks were a childhood staple.

Toyota Australia has taken its HiLux off-roader and given it a Tonka makeover, increasing the ride-height by 150mm, and introducing a high-riding axle, heavy-duty suspension and 35-inch diameter tyres. The rugged HiLux Tonka Concept also features a carbon fibre skin on the bonnet and tailgate, while storage boxes in the truck bed contain a fire extinguisher, axe, shovel and high-lift jack – everything a big kid needs to get in and out of trouble.
Underneath the famous black and yellow Tonka livery, a 2.8 litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel provides the grunt. The video shows the truck tackling some fairly extreme dunes somewhere in Oz, complete with oversized football and bucket & spade. King of the sandpit indeed.
