ABB
has been awarded $25m (£17m) to supply and install two indoor gas-insulated substations rated at 66/11kV in the city of Lusail, Qatar.
The substations, ordered by Al Jaber & Partners Construction & Energy Projects (WLL), will be located underground.
As part of the project, ABB will supply power transformers, high-voltage GIS (gas-insulated switchgear), medium-voltage switchgear, as well as the substation automation and telecommunication systems.
Substations are key installations in the transmission and distribution grid that facilitate the transformation of voltage levels and the distribution of electrical power. To date, ABB has an installed base of more than 10,000 substations around the world across a range of voltage levels up to 800kV.
