The
Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services(I&S) has received contracts totalling approximately €61 million from Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) for supply and services of technical systems for the greenfield airport project near Bangalore.
The contract includes the supply, engineering and installation of airfield lighting, the IT and communication systems, aerobridges and the baggage handling system as well as the power supply and the building services automation system. The airport is scheduled to be operational by April 2008.
The new Bangalore international airport, covering an area of about 1580 hectares (3900 acres), will be located at Devanahalli, approximately 30 kilometres north of Bangalore.
The current phase of the airport project consist of a 4000-metre runway, taxiways, an apron area with 20 aircraft stands and a terminal building, able to handle 4.5 million passengers per year.
To be executed in several phases, the airport will eventually have two runways, 120 aircraft stands, two terminal buildings that can handle more than 40 million passengers and cargo capacity up to one million tons per year.
