Siemens flies into airports

Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services has won baggage handling system orders for three Italian airport projects.

(I&S) has won baggage handling system orders for three Italian airport projects. Siemens is expanding the baggage handling system at

in

and providing a new baggage handling system for the new terminal at

. At the

in

, Siemens will be responsible for round-the-clock maintenance of baggage handling logistics for the next three years. Together the orders are worth more than €11 million.

For Terminal 2 of Milan's Malpensa airport, Siemens has won an order worth €5,000,000 from airport operator SEA to expand the baggage handling system. The core elements of the project are to provide 100 per cent x-raying of baggage and increased reliability of the whole system with a sorting rate of roughly 2,000 suitcases per hour. The system will come on stream in two phases, in June 2006 and in the spring of 2007.

At S. Angelo Airport, Treviso, Siemens I&S has won an order from airport operators AER.TRE to expand the baggage handling system. The contract also includes 100 per cent hold baggage screening and one year of maintenance.
