Power management

Vishay Intertechnology has announced a new 1/10-W surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor that is said to be industry’s smallest such device.

has announced a new 1/10-W surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor that is said to be industry’s smallest such device to combine a low 15-m to 100-m resistance range, a tight tolerance of 1%, and low RTC values down to ±75 ppm/C°.

Available in the 0603 package size, the new WSL0603 resistor serves in all types of current-sensing, voltage division, and pulse applications. It is intended for power management in cell phones and pagers; electronic automotive systems including engine controls, audio electronics, and climate controls; and disc drive motor control and dc-to-dc converters in computers.

With its very small footprint, low resistance values, and low RTC, the new resistor facilitates current-sensing accuracy, which in turn allows designers to use lower-cost ICs. The surface-mount WSL0603 resistor may be used in lieu of larger components or multiple high-value resistors running in parallel to provide space savings on the printed circuit board, thereby enabling design of smaller and lighter end products.
