The US Navy has awarded a contract to General Dynamics NASSCO for maintenance and emergent repair services for San Diego-based frigates.
The value of the contract, if all options are exercised, could reach $75m. The contract covers work from now until 2012.
The initial contract for work to be done in preparation for maintenance of the USS Gary (FFG 51) is valued at $63,000, and is expected to begin in late September.
‘For four years, NASSCO has been responsible for the upkeep of the seven frigates based in San Diego,’ said Frederick J Harris, president of NASSCO.
NASSCO will perform up to 23 scheduled maintenance services under the contract, which also covers repair work performed aboard frigates that visit San Diego from other Pacific Fleet ports.
