We obtained an intriguing result from last week's poll, with a precisely equal split in the pro- and anti-camps for health and safety regulation. Of the 436 respondents, exactly 50 per cent replied that the UK's health and safety regime was sensible and proportionate. The other options, all expressing varying shades of concern about the burden of regulation, comprised the other half of the self-selected sample, with 18 per cent saying the regulation was more of a hindrance than a help; 14 per cent saying they were too onerous; 12 per cent saying a redrafting of health and safety regulations was urgent; and 6 per cent decline to pick an option.
