Honeywell has announced that its Building Solutions business is undertaking much of the mechanical and electrical service work at iceSheffield and the neighbouring English Institute of Sport
The Honeywell contract includes the servicing and maintenance of boilers, pumps, air handling units, ducts, chillers, gas radiant heaters and the fire alarm system, which are all manufactured by third parties.
“Using one company with the expertise and experience to handle a wide range of plant maintenance is cost-effective and reduces administration time,” said Martin Clawson, SIV facilities manager. “Rather than having a number of specialists who visit occasionally and don’t know one end of an ice rink from the other, we have a locally-based Honeywell engineer who knows the facility and our operational requirements, as well as the plant he is servicing. That is a real bonus.”
iceSheffield is a £16 million, development that opened its doors in May 2003. The venue has already hosted a wide range of successful events including the prestigious British Figure and Dance Championships and the Channel 4 series ‘The Games’. The facility includes two Olympic-sized ice pads, two catering establishments, a conference/exhibition suite, and a gym and dance studio.
“The SIV facilities are extremely popular and we have worked with the customer to ensure that our maintenance programme does not interfere with their busy events timetable,” said John Fowler, account manager for Honeywell Building Solutions. “This has meant scheduling maintenance outside of normal working hours, for example. Because we have such a strong engineering presence in Sheffield and throughout the country, we’re able to accommodate the requirements of both venues.”
