The US Government has awarded General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products an $8.6m option to produce the MK47 MOD 0 Weapon System, a lightweight 40mm grenade launcher.
The award is part of a five-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract awarded in June 2006 and brings the total contract value to $32.5m.
The MK47, also known as STRIKER40, is a lightweight grenade launcher capable of firing airbursting munitions. According to General Dynamics, its integrated fire control system provides a technological advantage over older crew-served weapons.
General Dynamics is partnered with Raytheon to build the Lightweight Video System (LVS) Fire Control.
