General Dynamics Canada has been awarded a $26.3m contract to supply its VP Bio Sentry biological weapon sensor system to the Canadian Forces' Vital Point Bio-Sentry Programme.
The General Dynamics VP Bio Sentry system is a real-time, biological agent detection and sampling system configurable for static, mobile and naval applications. It is designed to detect aerosolised biological agents within seconds, giving soldiers time to don protective equipment, as well as providing critical identification information to help mitigate the effects of exposure.
The VP Bio Sentry system is based on real-time detection technology developed in collaboration with Defence Research and Development Canada combined with rapid identification technology.
Earlier versions of this detection technology have been deployed for over six years in urban operations and on board Canadian Forces ships. It has also been sold to a number of international military customers.
