Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has signed an agreement with the Research Centre Julich in Germany to collaborate on the development of fuel cells for transportation and portable power applications.
Under the cooperative activity agreement, the US Department of Energy’s ORNL and Julich will share their expertise in the area of fuel cells. On the one hand, Julich will use its extensive experience in developing direct methanol fuel cells, which includes cell and stack manufacturing and electrochemical characterisation, testing and modelling.
The ORNL researchers, on the other hand, will contribute in the field of analytical imaging, including solid-state and surface chemical analysis for fuel cells, and the development of metal and carbon bipolar plate materials.
The ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle, a partnership between the University of Tennessee and laboratory-managing company Battelle.
