Advanced Composites Group (
ACG), a subsidiary of
Umeco Composites, is to participate in two UK government-backed projects focused on the development of composite materials for use in tidal and gas turbine generators.
The projects are expected to have a significant impact on energy efficiency and CO2 emissions.
In partnership with Bristol University, Aviation Enterprises and Materials Engineering Research Laboratory, ACG will explore improving energy efficiency and analysing its return on investment in a project entitled 'New Materials and Methods for Energy Efficient Tidal Turbines'.
An additional project will be led by Rolls-Royce, Swansea University and Birmingham University to explore the research and development of advanced ceramic matrix composites for gas turbine applications.
Clive Snowdon, chief executive of Umeco, said: ‘We are honoured and proud to be selected to play a key part in these exciting and challenging composites research projects, and to apply our composites expertise in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of emerging power-generation programmes.’
