Alstom awarded €220m

Alstom has been awarded €220m to supply Spanish rail operator, RENFE with 30 commuter trains.

The contract requires Alstom to manufacture 30, five-coach Civia IV model trains and then maintain them for a period of 14 years. The first train is scheduled for delivery in September 2009, with subsequent deliveries continuing until July 2010.

The vehicles will be manufactured in Alstom’s factory at Santa Perpetua de Mogoda, Barcelona. The site will be responsible for project management, engineering, construction of bodyshells, assembly, finishing, testing and delivery. Sites in Belgium, France and Canada will also be involved in manufacturing the trains. ?

In April 2004 and February 2006, Alstom was awarded two contracts for the furniture of 80 Civia trains, currently being constructed at the Barcelona factory. With this new contract, Alstom will continue to contribute to RENFE’s ongoing programme to modernize its fleet of commuter trains.
