Singapore Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins to provide its SAT-2100 satellite communication system with a single HST-2110 high-speed data transceiver for 58 Boeing 777 aircraft.
Under the terms of the agreement, Rockwell Collins will replace Singapore Airlines' existing SATCOM system with its latest high-speed data device.
In addition to the retrofit program, Singapore Airlines is using the same system on new Boeing 777s as they come into service. One of the primary uses of the SAT-2100 is to deliver high speed data services to Singapore Airlines' newly installed Electronic Flight Bag System (EFB).
EFB is an electronic information management device for flight crews that aims to minimise paperwork.
Rockwell Collins' SAT-2100 system provides multi-channel voice and data capabilities and can be used for broadband connectivity. The SAT-2100 has been certified on the Boeing 777 and 747-400, and has been selected for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
