Aker Kvaerner expands in Canada

Aker Kvaerner has announced plans to relocate and expand its technology fabrication arm, Aker Kvaerner Chemetics in Toronto, Canada.

The new £9m fabrication shop, to be built in Pickering, Ontario, will provide higher and heavier lift capacity for larger equipment and will increase production, according to Aker Kvaerner. The site will also allow Chemetics to expand its work on specialised welding, stainless steel and high alloy fabrication.

‘We are expanding the customer base in our traditional sulphuric acid markets and further expanding into equipment supply to the energy and process markets,’ said Doug Shaw, president of Aker Kvaerner Chemetics.

In addition, Aker Kvaerner expects the new site to double its production capacity in Toronto, as well as increase employment by 40 per cent by the end of 2009.
