Air cleared for Fluor
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has approved an air permit for Fluor, allowing it to complete engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPC) work on the $1.8bn Oak Grove power plant project.
Fluor will now be able to continue with its work on the 1,600 megawatt lignite power plant, which is located in Robertson County, Texas. It has already invested $80m in work on the project carried out last year.
It claims that the new plant will be 75 per cent cleaner than the average US coal plant with the lowest levels of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and mercury emissions.
Units one and two of the Oak Grove site are expected to start generating electricity in late 2009 and mid-2010 respectively. Fluor believes that the site will generate enough power to serve one million homes.
