Behind every reliable and optimised UPS is a successful installation and commissioning process. The checks and balances that determine correct positioning, electrical connectivity, sizing and battery protection are the foundations of UPS functionality.
Guaranteeing the perfect installation is the perennial challenge of contractors around the world; every electrical infrastructure has its own specific set of requirements, whether a brand new facility or architecture upgrade.
Furthermore, with data being generated at an unsurpassed rate, the pressure on data centre performance – and the UPS workhorses that power them – is at a new peak. Power continuity, reliability and optimised efficiency are key measures of success and certain drivers of competitiveness – in an increasingly competitive environment.
Whether a newly qualified contractor or seasoned professional, solutions are available today that make use of the latest smart and mobile communications technology to eliminate uncertainty and reduce risk when it comes to the installation and commissioning of new equipment – making UPS installations easier than ever.
Making UPS installations easier, quicker, safer
Integrated power specialist, Socomec, has developed a breakthrough solution that reduces the margin for error and provides a helping hand to contractors working in the field.
This advanced system – a world first – is helping to drive innovation, introducing greater efficiencies and improving performance levels – whilst simplifying the job of the contractor.
Colin Dean, Managing Director Socomec UK explains; “The installation and commissioning of any UPS is fundamental to ensuring functionality and optimised performance. By considering the product from the perspective of our customers as well as end users – and harnessing the power of the latest digital and augmented reality technology - we have created a disruptive approach to the way that UPS equipment is installed.”
By integrating smart technology within an electrical infrastructure, it is possible to simplify installations making the process quicker and safer than ever before.
A smart new approach
E-WIRE – the first app in the world specifically designed to support UPS installations - simplifies the installer’s job, improves power supply reliability and ensures operator safety.
Available with Socomec’s latest Masterys UPS equipment - GP4 and BC+ - this UPS solution is based on proven Masterys technology which has been efficiently protecting the supply of critical applications around the world since its inception in 2004 as the first 3 level topology system. With more than 90,000 units deployed in the field, it has won the trust, approval and certification from the most demanding users.
Based on five key principles, the app provides unprecedented support in the field; UPS recognition and data acquisition; positioning and preliminary checks; cabling and connection; verification of the installation; validation for commissioning.
Augmented reality + UPS recognition + data acquisition
Using augmented reality technology, E-WIRE recognises the UPS to be installed via the installer’s smartphone camera. Via data acquisition, the tutoring app then automatically downloads all relevant information pertaining to that UPS, in order to fully support the installation.
Positioning and preliminary checks, cabling and connections
Providing step-by-step instructions, installation is fast and foolproof with preliminary checks including environmental data, local information and UPS positioning.
Electrical protection is verified with a live input voltage measurement check, and the tutor even provides a guide to cabling both the UPS and the battery system including a cable size check.
Verification and validation
When the installation is complete, E-WIRE asks the installer to perform a series of checks, including electrical measurements.
A detailed report - including supplementary installer’s notes - is then sent to the Socomec Service Centre to validate the operation with confirmation provided to the installer.
The Socomec Service Centre will then authorise and schedule the commissioning.
Designed for iOS™ and Android™ smartphones, local Socomec subsidiaries or distributors can provide an activation code to enable the system.
Ready for Industry 4.0 - making next-generation performance accessible to all
The fourth generation Masterys UPS combines Socomec’s proven technology with new and unsurpassed performance in terms of reliability and service level – and is equipped for today’s “smart factories”.
Colin Dean explains: “A true digital native, the fourth generation Masterys has been borne out of the digital revolution – and is ready for the requisites of Industry 4.0. Managing costs and resource - whether developing or adopting the latest smart solutions - requires a careful balancing act. We have engineered our UPS protection to be customized accordingly, whether delivering ultra-high performance solutions such as the GP4, or more general purpose solutions such as the BC+ which delivers value for money without compromising on performance. Both ranges within the latest Masterys development have been designed to be easily configured – even during order processing. They can be adapted to the needs of existing installations to ensure maximum power availability when retrofitting or replacing obsolete equipment.”
By providing a custom product as standard, worked up from a comprehensive catalogue base of options, it is possible to meet precise requirements with the most effective and efficient configuration possible.
Dean continues: “The exceptional flexibility of our Masterys GP4 and BC+ solutions means that every organisation can be equipped for the digital transformation. When combined with the handy EWire app, as well as delivering advantages in terms of methodology, the result is a more reliable installation, demonstrable professionalism and increased efficiency. The app itself is highly intuitive and feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive with installations proving to be faster and simpler than they have been in the past. Final approval for the installation delivers ultimate peace of mind – and the convenience of amalgamating all UPS installation inventory in one database supports business community.
