Owing to their unique magnetic properties magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4) represent an emerging class of multifunctional biomedical materials that have been used in magnetic fluid hyperthermia applications, magnetic resonance imaging, immunoassays, catalysis, and targeted drug delivery. Herein a highly efficient microwave-assisted synthesis route is presented, giving significantly higher yields than the conventionally heated process.
A microwave nanoparticle synthesis experiment on this material has been carried out by Anton Paar.
