There is increasing evidence of the medical and therapeutic benefits of CBD (cannabidiol)- and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)-based products. This has raised the interest of the health and wellness and pharmaceutical industries. CBD and THC oils/extracts are extremely hydrophobic, limiting their absorption by the human body and reducing bioavailability.
To overcome these limitations, water-based emulsions of CBD/THC oils have been developed. Both the particle size and zeta potential of the oil droplets directly affect the pharmacokinetic and organoleptic properties of the final product, as well as its stability.
In this application report, the particle size and zeta potential of beverages infused with CBD emulsions were analyzed using a Litesizer 500 to determine product quality.
