Given that there was a fire on a Transrapid train in Shanghai in August, and 23 died in a Transrapid accident in Germany last month is it cheeky to suggest that the statement made by Ultraspeed's Alan James (
Feature, 24 April) that the maglev train system is 'inherently safe' is simplistic?
Why not spend the £29bn on nuclear-power stations (that will kill fewer people for a start) to power a new generation of non-fossil fuelled cars?
Trains will only ever go to stations — cars take you and your luggage to where you want to be.
