, 29 October). I have been involved in studies of the trends in this respect and there is no doubt that the increasing package sizes will result in a total rethink of the way the postal system is managed.



As more and more goods are ordered via the internet the delivery system will become more overloaded.



That will inevitably lead to us having to go and collect more of what we buy from the sorting office rather than having it brought to our door, or the work being transferred from the postman to a fleet of delivery vans visiting home during pre-determined slots.



The ordinary postman will be left to deliver what remains of the letters and light packages, which on current trends will be mostly junk mail.



This is why I think the project outlined in your last issue, while well intentioned, may be rather out of date.
