All three roles reached the top 10 of recruitment agency Glassdoor’s ‘25 Best Jobs In the UK for 2015’ report thanks to the high number of vacancies available for each job and their rating for career opportunities.
Mechanical engineering came third in the list with more openings in Glassdoor’s listings than any other profession with the exception of software engineering, which came tenth.
Unfortunately, all engineering positions in the chart – which also included network engineer and sales engineer – came with salaries in the lower half of the spectrum (under £45,000).
However this was often countered by the high rating for career opportunities, as voted for by existing engineers using Glassdoor.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that most of the jobs with higher salaries were management positions rather than graduate-level roles. And the one senior engineering profession on the list – solutions architecture – was the most highly paid of all.
‘Mechanical Engineer came near the top of the list because there are a relatively high number of companies advertising for vacancies in this sector – in fact only accountants and software engineers are more in demand than mechanical engineers,’ Joe Wiggins, Glassdoor career trends analyst, told The Student Engineer via email.
‘Both mechanical and civil engineers also rate highly for career opportunities and this figure comes directly from people who do this job themselves. Neither of these jobs is likely to make you a millionaire, but our list is about much more than money – it helps people who are looking for a job decide what is hot right now.’

I'd like to know where these are operating in the UK. The report is notably light on this. I wonder why?
