VIPA Touch Screen HMI’s

Complementing its wide range of PLC and PC based automation solutions, VIPA have launched a new family of touch screen HMI’s for factory, process and building automation applications. The new TouchPanel family comprises six models with a choice of monochrome or colour displays in industry standard panel sizes of 5.7”, 6.4” and 8.4”. With Microsoft® Windows CE 5.0 operating system and MoviconX© CE Runtime visualisation software and a wide selection of field-bus interface options, USB and serial communications ports, the TouchPanel range offers maximum flexibility and future-proof stability.

Based on Intel Xscale® Technology developed for high performance processing for wireless and networking systems such as PDA’s and GPS systems, the TouchPanel range features open architecture XML to maximise integration with external systems. By allowing the choice of MoviconX or zenOn 6.20, the user can decide between the most suitable application requirements and leverage its own software development skills and resources to the full. Both systems offer a vast range of features for SCADA based applications.

VIPA offer the MoviconX “Real Flexible” and zenOn development editors with the TouchPanel range. The MoviconX easy-to-use software features object or graphic element based programming with drag & drop integration and scalable vector graphics (SVG) for simplified graphics development. A wide range of pre-configured and freely scalable objects for alarm processing, recipe administration, online database and history database are complemented with graphical 2D and 3D diagrams and symbol libraries to further simplify application development. Also available is a data import facility for Step®7, OPC and CSV files in addition to a multi-driver interface with a maximum of four parallel drivers and drivers for all common manufacturers and field-bus systems. The MoviconX software fully conforms to the FDA 21 CFR Part 11 standard for security of electronic records and electronic signatures, now widely specified for internet automated business processes. VIPA TouchPanels offer a wide range of application possibilities including ActiveX, OPC Client/Server, ADO CE-DB, SMTP email server, TAPI, SAPI, RAS, VBA Script (Visual Basic for Applications) and Web Server capabilities.

Communications interfaces available for the TouchPanel range include RS232, RS485 and RS422 serial ports. Two USB ports allow Hot-Plug connection to peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, printer, barcode-reader etc. All colour models feature Ethernet10/100 ports for central data saving or project administration data exchange. Optional fieldbus interfaces include MPI, CANopen and Profibus-DP/S. Depending upon the model, either 6Mb or 16Mb is available for user data storage with Compact Flash Type II or SD/MMC storage mediums.

The range covers an entry level 5.6” model with an STN LCD monochrome display and 320 x 240 resolution through to a 8.4” TFT colour display with 640 x 480 resolution and 64K colours. VIPA Touchpanels have been designed for horizontal or vertical mounting in space restricted areas. The front side of the panel is IP65 protection rated and the die-cast aluminium housing is particularly suited to mounting in harsh industrial environments.
