Emerson Process Management has introduced a specially designed tri-axial accelerometer with an integral magnet for monitoring rotating equipment.
Claimed to be smaller than conventional tri-axial accelerometers, the new sensor can be used by technicians using the company’s dual channel CSI2130 Machinery Health Analyzer.
The accelerometer does not require a stud mount. Instead, it can be magnetically attached on a mounting pad and still deliver measurements up to 10kHz in the primary axis and above 3kHz in the secondary axes.
When used in conjunction with Emerson's PeakVue, the sensor's high frequency response range identifies bearing faults and improper machine lubrication, ensuring that users are made aware of these potentially damaging conditions.
Using this approach, all the required data on a typical bearing point can be gathered in 7 to 10 seconds — 30% to 75% faster than with conventional approaches.
The compact design of Emerson's tri-axial sensor also makes it versatile enough for general monitoring applications as a single-axis sensor without any special type of mounting. It can be placed directly on the machine housing — even curved surfaces — and still provide data.
Users gain the full value of the new tri-axial accelerometer and CSI 2130 Machinery Health Analyzer when they are used in conjunction with Emerson's AMS Suite: Machinery Health Manager software that makes the condition of critical mechanical equipment readily available to key plant decision-makers.
