Bombardier Transportation has awarded US power generation and conditioning equipment supplier Turbo Power Systems an order worth over $8m for metro train power systems.
Bombardier is producing a new fleet of metro underground cars for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), and TPS will supply Bombardier with auxiliary power electronics units for 39 train sets. These units will form a key part of a distributed power system throughout the train, providing a source of quality power for sub-systems such as the air-conditioning equipment.
The initial confirmed order is for production equipment, spares, training and engineering services. Delivery of the production equipment is expected to take place between 2008 and 2010.
The TTC has a number of phased options which, if exercised, could increase the value of the overall components contract between TPS and Bombardier.
