Thalesa contract to supply 16 further Battle Group Thermal Imaging (BGTI) systems for installation on the army’s Scimitar armoured vehicles.
The BGTI system, which Thales claims gives improved vision and targeting under different light conditions and at a greater range than other systems, has already been installed on Warrior and Scimitar vehicles.
BGTI comprises a stabilised gunners sighting system, a commanders crew station, a GPS and Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) and a drivers display. The thermal imager gives improved situational awareness at night and in poor visibility, while the eye-safe laser rangefinder, fire control system and INS provide more accurate vehicle and target positioning.
