With a sobering reminder that it could take until 2158 to achieve full gender parity, EWB is committed to speeding up this progress through transformative engineering projects that support women and girls. Bentley Systems has generously contributed $15,000 to kickstart the fundraising efforts. EWB now calls on the public, including like-minded corporations and organisations, to help reach the campaign goal.
"Women and girls often bear the burden of lack of access to infrastructure, missing out on the opportunity to improve their own lives and the lives of those around them,” shared Katie Cresswell-Maynard, Executive Director, Engineers Without Borders International. “We're thrilled Bentley Systems have chosen to kickstart our fundraising campaign this year and hope others will follow so we can accelerate action for women and girls this International Women's Day."
EWB International is raising $100,000 to support global Engineers Without Borders organisations, delivering critical projects to create a better tomorrow for women and girls. Established to provide safe spaces, support education, and foster economic empowerment for women and girls, these projects include:
● Creating safe spaces for children in Argentina, supporting mothers to work
● Supporting a female entrepreneur initiative leading a plastic waste revolution in Ghana
● Sustainable farming vocations for girls, also in Ghana
● Cultivating a reliable water supply for a girls' school in Kenya
● Working towards freedom from water collection for women and girls in Malaysia
● Resources for women and girls overcoming addiction in Sierra Leone
● Rehabilitating a school in Zimbabwe, with special focus on infrastructure of girls
"We are delighted that our meaningful partnership with Engineers Without Borders enables us to make a positive impact on the lives of women and girls worldwide,” commented Dan O'Brien, Director of Philanthropy and Impact, Bentley Systems. “By supporting the vital work of the Engineers Without Borders movement, we contribute to lasting change. We are especially proud to support this campaign in celebration of International Women's Day."
