Heilbronn, Germany – GGB, formerly Garlock Bearings, now offers three grades of solid-polymer rod stock that can be machined into bearing prototypes and small, serial parts to customer specifications. These include EP22™, a PBT-based thermoplastic material; EP43™, a PPS-based material; and EP63™, a PEEK-based material. The rods are available in lengths of 1 m and diameters of 10, 20 and 30 mm.
EP22™ can provide cost-effective performance in household appliances, chemical equipment, sporting goods and other applications. The material performs well in both dry and lubricated operating conditions. Maximum static load is 50 N/mm2; maximum sliding speed dry is 1 m/s; operating temperature range is -50oC to +170 oC; coefficient of friction dry is 0.22-0.37; required peak-to-valley height of the ground sliding partner is 0.3 ± 0.2 µm; and recommended hardness of the sliding partner is >200 HV. The PV limit depends on the ratio between the heat-dissipating and contact areas.
EP43™ is optimized for dry operation, and provides good resistance to chemicals and hydrolysis, very low friction and high dimensional stability. It is suitable for use in a variety of applications, including appliances, conveyors, and automatic gaming and ATM machines. Maximum static load is 83 N/mm2; maximum sliding speed dry is 1 m/s; operating temperature range is -40oC to +240 oC; coefficient of friction dry is 0.11-0.20; required peak-to-valley height of the ground sliding partner is 0.5 ± 0.3 µm; and recommended hardness of the sliding partner is >200 HV. The PV limit depends on the ratio between the heat-dissipating and contact areas.
EP63™ is a high-temperature material with low thermal expansion. Also optimized for running dry, it provides high toughness and mechanical strength, as well as resistance to vibration-induced wear, chemicals and hydrolysis. Potential applications include appliances, electronic devices, valve engineering and agricultural machinery. Maximum static load is 90 N/mm2; maximum sliding speed dry is 1 m/s; operating temperature range is -100oC to +290 oC; coefficient of friction dry is 0.12-0.21; required peak-to-valley height of the ground sliding partner is 0.3 ± 0.2 µm; and recommended hardness of the sliding partner is >200 HV. The PV limit depends on the ratio between the heat-dissipating and contact areas.
