Railway (CP) to deliver 15 electric locomotives, including spare parts.

The locomotives, which will be used in the rail freight and passengers sectors, will be based on the Siemens Eurosprinter.

This contract is the second large locomotive order for Siemens in Portugal. Between 1993 and 1995, a Siemens-led consortium supplied 30 electric locomotives to the Portuguese State Railway.

Three of the locomotives will be manufactured at Siemens' plant in Munich. The body shell and preassembly work on the remaining 12 units will also take place in Germany, while final assembly will be carried out by EMEF, a subsidiary of CP.

The first locomotive will be delivered in July 2008.
