Siemens Transportation Systems (TS) has received an order worth approximately €540m for 44 Railjet trains from Austrian Federal Railways.
This awards follows a €244m contract awarded to Siemens in February 2006 for 23 Railjet trains.
The order is the largest received by Siemens Austria in the last decade and will increase Austrian Federal Railways’ fleet to 67 Railjet trainsets. The first of these trains, which will be driven by Siemens Taurus locomotives, will be used in international service from 2010 onwards.
The 408 seat trainsets, which are designed to have a top speed of 230km/h, consist of a driving trailer car and six intermediate cars made of steel.
