Siemens introduces stereoscopic ultrasonic imaging

Siemens Healthcare has developed a new software program that will give obstetricians and gynecologists the possibility to produce 3D stereoscopic views of a patient’s ultrasound scan.

The new image management software dubbed syngo.fourSight Workplace operates with 3D vision technology and high-end professional graphics solutions provided by visual computing company NVIDA.

Conventional 3D ultrasound technologies use two-dimensional monitors for the evaluation of 3D images, whereas Siemens’ new technology is said to deliver ‘true’ stereoscopic views.

‘This takes 3D/4D ultrasound imaging to the next level,’ stated Dr Norbert Gaus, chief executive of Siemens Healthcare’s Clinical Products Division.
