Thailand's largest mobile provider,
Advanced Info Service PCL(AIS), has contracted with the
Siemens Communications Groupto expand its GSM radio and core network.
In the future, up to one million additional subscribers will be able to make phone calls and utilise mobile communication services over the AIS network.
In addition, Siemens will also be supplying a multi-service provisioning platform, readying the operator's network for data traffic. The framework contract additionally includes an agreement on network maintenance; it is valued at a total of €43 million.
Siemens has been supplying AIS with GSM network infrastructure, such as switches, base stations, intelligent network services and applications, since 1995. Siemens currently holds a GSM market share of 25 percent in Thailand.
AIS has a market share of over 50%, and its 16 million subscribers presently make it Thailand's largest mobile operator.
