EDF Energy Networks has announced that it will be installing GE Energy’s power distribution management software system to help manage its London electricity distribution network.

UK

power provider,

EDF Energy Networks

, has announced that it will be installing

GE Energy

’s power distribution management software system to help manage its

London

electricity distribution network.

The software is expected to improve the reliability of power supply by identifying faults and rerouting power where required.

This comes as part of EDF’s integration strategy, which also includes the streamlining of its services to a single operating centre.

According to GE Energy, the system can help the UK meet its energy goals.

The Government aims to generate 15 per cent of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2020 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent of levels recorded in 1990 by 2050.

As more renewable energy is generated by alternative methods, the source of power will enter the network from a variety of locations.

GE Energy’s system can provide EDF with live information that could help it manage the future distribution of renewable energy.

The distribution management system is part of GE’s smart grid portfolio, which also includes smart meters, capacitors and geospatial software.
