The
Society of British Aerospace Companies(SBAC) announced today that its initiative to transform the aerospace supply chain has taken a further step forward.
Following the recent announcement that the supply chain for the twenty first century (SC21) programme has secured the commitment of over 300 companies, SBAC has now confirmed that the SPACE (Supply chain Progress towards Aeronautical Community Excellence) initiative is to recognise SC21.
SPACE is a non-profit association formed by European and US companies to deliver supply chain improvement in support of the Power8 initiative and builds on the Airbus Charter signed in July 2007.
SPACE - whose founder members include Airbus, Thales and Hamilton Sundstrand - and SBAC have agreed that suppliers undertaking the SC21 initiative will also be compliant with SPACE.
SC21 was launched at the Farnborough International Air Show in 2006 with 19 members and now has over 300 signatories.
‘The mutual recognition of SC21 and the SPACE initiative is another sign that SC21 is striding forward as a benchmark in improving whole supply chains,’ said Russ Armitage, SC21 Chairman. ‘SC21 is a revolution in the making in aerospace supply chains. We urge those companies who have not yet signed up to get involved in order to benefit from potential savings themselves.’
Ian Godden, SBAC Chief Executive, added: ‘SC21 has already proved very popular in the aerospace industry in delivering increased efficiencies as well as considerable cost and time savings. The initiative has been signing up an average of seventeen companies a month since it was launched in 2006. It is excellent news that SC21 is aligned with SPACE and Power8.’
