Vishay Intertechnology

has announced the release of Vishay Transducers GLT Web Tension Systems. Designed to meet the needs of paper, film, foil converting, and printing equipment manufacturers, the new, low-tension GLT Web Tension Systems measure winding, rewinding, slitting, coating and laminating to ensure premium process performance.

GLT Web Tension Systems combine Vishay Transducers’ PS-1010T web tension transmitter and Vishay BLH Model GLT transducers to provide reliable, repeatable, web tension measurement.

The PS-1010T web tension transmitter is a signal conditioner/amplifier for single-zone web tension measurement that eliminates low- tension signal drift.

The galvanically isolated analogue output signal tracks web tension force signals for precise brake/clutch control or remote panel meter display. Features include compact, lightweight DIN rail ‘Snap Track’ installation; independent zero and span adjustments; galvanically isolated 0 V to 10V, 4mA to 20mA output signals; and low power (24VDC at 125mA). It filters electrical noise caused by AC drives, servo motors, and switching devices.

GLT transducers eliminate drift and frequent recalibration problems encountered with conventional half-bridge, semiconductor type load cells. Vishay claims that GLT specifications are twice as accurate as those of competitively priced semiconductor load cells.

Full Wheatstone-Bridge, temperature-compensated, SR-4 strain gage construction provides precision performance with high signal stability and negligible drift. GLT outline dimensions are identical to existing equipment, thereby enabling drop-in replacement. Factory calibration with matching output signals significantly simplifies installation while ensuring long-term calibration reliability.

GLT transducers are available in 20-lb, 50-lb, 100-lb, 200-lb, and 500-lb ratings, and operate over a temperature range of -40 degrees C to +105 degrees C. Rated output is 2.0mV/V +/-0.25%, while non-linearity and repeatability are 0.25% and 0.02% RO respectively.

While suited for a very wide range of installations, Vishay says GLT Systems perform well in applications with high roll weight/low tension ratios and/or wide rangeability requirements.
