Nokia and Motorola team up on turnkey drone solution
Nokia and Motorola Solutions have announced a technology partnership to deliver an AI-powered turnkey drone solution for emergency services and mission-critical industries.

Underpinning the new offering is Nokia’s drone-in-a-box product, which comprises a Nokia-built drone, docking station, parachute, and payload equipment such as a dual gimbal camera. The 5G-connected drone also features a software ground control station and a cloud-based data collection platform, enabling beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations.
The new partnership will pair Nokia’s tech with Motorola Solutions’ CAPE drone software. Developed with emergency services and mission-critical industries in mind, CAPE combines three software applications designed to safely pilot a local drone, take command of an in-flight drone from anywhere and watch live-streamed ‘evidence-grade’ video. Already in use as part of Drone as First Responder (DFR) programmes, Motorola Solutions says CAPE also has applications across critical infrastructure industries such as oil & gas, ports, utilities, mining and manufacturing.
“We’re innovating where our customers need us most to bring them better intelligence for faster decisions,” said Jehan Wickramasuriya, corporate vice president of AI and Intelligence Platforms at Motorola Solutions.
