NEW MAKITA SOLUTIONS GUIDE FOR LATEST HAV, NOISE AND DUST REGULATIONS
- Practical protection advice, safety planning and training
- SOLUTIONS for the Control of Noise at Work Regulations
- TOOLMINDER software for tool tagging and records
Makita, Britain’s number 1 professional power tool manufacturer, today launches an updated version of its SOLUTIONS programme, a comprehensive package of data, regulation explanations and training opportunities designed to help power tool owners and operators control risks and meet the highest industrial safety standards.
The launch of the latest Makita SOLUTIONS initiative also provides a new, fully detailed guide to the latest regulations covering not only the important HAV vibration debate, but also prevention and protection from noise and dust pollution in the work place. This new SOLUTIONS guide from Makita includes advice for employees and employers, recommendations for protective action, tool selection and operating limits and methods. Makita provide a comprehensive training programme covering all aspects of power tool operation with the only courses in the industry recognised by City & Guilds.
Makita’s innovative AVT, Anti Vibration Technology, power tools have set new standards of safety and performance. The scientific reduction of vibration by reciprocating dampers that dramatically cut machine generated vibration whilst enhancing performance provide the safest tools on the market. The EN60745-1 vibration testing standard requires all ratings to be shown as tri-axial figures enabling usage or “trigger time” limits to be established.
Similarly dust extraction systems designed into Makita tools coupled to powerful vacuum extractors provide a clean and safe working environment. In addition to dust collection misting or damping should be used. The Makita DPC6410 petrol disc cutter has a built-in water manifold which when coupled to a pressurised water container will spray water mist onto the cutting wheel to damp down stone or concrete dust. Masks or respirators should always be used in addition to safety eyewear.
The high impact power of Makita drills and breakers and the use of Y-cutter bits reduce noise. The new Control of Noise at Work regulations became law in April last year to ensure that employee’s hearing is protected from excessive noise levels at their place of work. The new SOLUTIONS guide lists maximum sound pressure and sound power noise levels for many Makita machines.
Makita has carried out a year-long market test on power tool identification systems to give the operator important safety information such as vibration ratings, HSE exposure points, noise ratings, permitted usage time and even the traffic light colour coding system. The data printed onto the indestructible tags is sourced from a software programme, developed by Makita and their SOLUTIONS partner, which forms part of the new fleet management initiative.
The Toolminder software package is available on CD, the simplest solution to create accurate and safe power tool records that show the machine on the ownership inventory, records usage and service history and provides security records protecting against theft and loss. Many employers must now provide safety data for each machine used by staff and the Toolminder tagging system with the comprehensive records files can be a boon as part of the SOLUTIONS package.
The new Makita SOLUTIONS fleet management service offers substantial tool fleet owners, such as the major tools rental companies, an extendable warranty and service backup scheme. SOLUTIONS can cover all Makita tools including petrol driven products.
