National Instruments Introduces New High-Density Thermocouple Module for Data Acquisition

With the NI 9213, NI Now Offers 50 Modules in the C Series Platform for a Variety of Measurements

June 9, 2009 – National Instruments (Nasdaq: NATI) has announced the NI 9213, which adds high-density thermocouple measurements to the NI C Series platform. Using the NI 9213, engineers can create a compact, modular data acquisition system to collect data from up to 16 independent thermocouples. The NI 9213 takes up less space than standard instrumentation in a measurement system and provides more channels for measurement with a sampling rate of 75 samples/second per channel, making the device both compact and efficient for high-channel systems.

Because of the flexibility of the C Series platform, engineers can use the NI 9213 in new or existing applications. The NI 9213, like other C Series modules, can be deployed as a quick measurement desktop data acquisition device with the NI USB-9162 single module or NI CompactDAQ eight-module carriers. The NI 9213 also can be used in a remote measurement system over an Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection with the NI WLS-9163 wireless C Series single module carrier or as part of an embedded measurement and control system in NI CompactRIO hardware. With multiple NI 9213 modules in one chassis, NI CompactDAQ and CompactRIO now are able to support up to 128 channels of thermocouple measurement in a single system.

All 50 of the C Series I/O modules are designed as self-contained measurement modules, with the circuitry required for the specific measurement contained in the module itself. Analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue conversion occurs in the module before the data reaches the chassis. Engineers can use the majority of C Series I/O modules in the NI CompactDAQ and CompactRIO measurement platforms or in remote applications. The NI 9213 can also be combined with a variety of other C Series modules that take measurements such as acceleration, voltage, current, pressure and digital I/O. The modules can be moved from one platform to the other with no hardware modifications. Engineers can create solutions that scale across the C Series platform using the same applications developed in the NI LabVIEW graphical programming environment.
