Mobility scooters go green

A student from the University of Nottingham is undertaking a project that could lead to mobility scooters and bicycles that are recharged using solar powered generators.

Matt Alvey, who is studying Architecture and Environmental Design, says the photovoltaic recharging system will turn the mobility vehicles truly green.

Securit GB, a company that manufactures secure storage sheds for the scooters approached the university about integrating solar power to recharge the vehicle without the need to connect mains power to the shed.

Alvey is also hoping he can use the same technology to charge electric bikes, and is in discussions with Loughborough based 50cycles. He has so far set up a working prototype to test the proposed design.
