The Centre of Excellence in Mobile Applications and Services (CEMAS) will be based at Glamorgan University. The venture is backed by £2.4m from the EU’s Convergence European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government.
The centre will serve small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), providing them with the means to design, develop, test and protect the creation of new mobile phone services and applications.
Ieuan Wyn Jones said: ’This is a substantial investment in 21st century mobile technology - an investment in the future of our economy and another example of successful collaboration between the Welsh Assembly Government, universities and the private sector.’
As part of the initiative, a dedicated commercial manager will assist SMEs to identify market opportunities, demonstrate products to a wide range of existing telecommunications firms and help ensure that products reach their intended markets.
