Newport Corporation’s
new ‘Reveal’ is a portable, continuous wave (CW), diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser-based system designed to detect fingerprints at a crime scene.
It also uncovers body fluids such as semen, saliva and sweat, as well as biological matter such as bone, teeth and skin fragments for DNA testing. In addition, Reveal enables the detection of biological and chemical agents by their specific colour signatures when exposed to laser light.
The Reveal laser system consists of a DPSS laser, 22 feet of fibre optic cable and an ergonomic wand with zoom optics. The entire solution is contained in a single, portable flight case package.
The laser requires no warm-up time. After the laser is switched on, the wand is used to sweep the scene for evidence after which investigators can examine and document their discoveries on location.
Because Reveal employs a 8W CW laser, investigators can detect untreated latent fingerprints on difficult surfaces such as dry walls, paper, fabric and skin.
