Using a DC 100kW charger, the I-Pace will charge from zero to 80 per cent in 45 minutes. According to the OEM, mains power can be used to prepare the car’s battery ahead of a journey, with this pre-conditioning helping to maximise performance and range. Setting up preferred charging times and pre-conditioning schedules can be done from either the onboard control system or a smartphone app.
“Not only will the I-Pace charge quickly enough for our customers to carry out their everyday lives, it will offer powerful and precise performance in a variety of conditions and climatic extremes,” said Ian Hoban, Jaguar vehicle line director.
“Allied with the versatile credentials of our celebrated Pace family, this will be an electric performance SUV like no other.”
Described as an SUV with sports car performance, the I-Pace is powered by a 90kWh lithium-ion battery driving twin electric motors on the front and rear axles. Together, they generate 700Nm of torque and 400bhp, and the traction benefits of all-wheel drive help the I-Pace accelerate from 0-60mph in about four seconds.
“Electric motors provide immediate response with no lag, no gearshifts and no interruptions,” said Hoban. “Their superior torque delivery compared to internal combustion engines transforms the driving experience.”
The I-Pace will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, following a March 1 global launch that will be broadcast live on the internet. According to Jaguar, What Car? readers have declared the I-Pace the most anticipated car of 2018, garnering six times more votes than any other model on the magazine’s shortlist. Price details are due to be released during the March 1 broadcast.
