Accord Alliance has been awarded a contract to design a solution for the decommissioning of the solid waste storage silo on the Sellafield nuclear site.
The silo building contains intermediate level waste generated in the 1950s and 1960s, after which the silo compartments were plugged and argon made inert. Accord Alliance's design will need to enable the retrieval and treatment of the silo waste so that it can be exported and stored safely.
Although normally led by AMEC, International Nuclear Solutions (INS) will lead Accord Alliance for this project, while AMEC and DGP International will take a supporting role.
INS has a multi-disciplinary team located close to Sellafield Limited’s offices in Risley, Cheshire.
