Renewable electricity supplier Good Energy has reported positive growth in the first six months of the year, despite difficult market conditions.
The Wiltshire-based company increased revenue by 29 per cent and operating profit by 33 per cent on the same period a year earlier, following a rise in customer numbers in the first half of 2009.
The group also reported a seven per cent increase in the sales of its electricity compared with the previous year and attributed the positive results to the government’s support of a low-carbon economy.
Juliet Davenport, Good Energy’s chief executive, said: ‘It has always been our mission to make it easier for individuals who are concerned about climate change to make a difference by reducing their personal carbon footprint and supporting the growth of renewable generation.
‘The fact that our customer numbers have grown during a recession shows that we are really making progress towards this goal and that environmental concerns remain a high priority for consumers.’
Following approval by the North Cornwall District to re-power the company’s wind farm, Good Energy is in the process of finalising its choice of wind turbine supplier and said that a funding programme for the new venture was under way.
Davenport added: ‘We look forward to continuing this progress as we finalise financing and development of our wind farm in Cornwall later this year and consider a pipeline of future opportunities.’
