Fluor has been awarded a $1.3bn contract to work on Respol YPF’s refinery expansion in Cartagena, Spain.
The contract includes project management of a large part of the work, design and engineering services, as well as management of procurement and construction of the refinery’s utilities and offsites.
The expansion project, said to be worth $4.8bn in total, includes refurbishing existing units as well as designing and constructing new ones.
‘In addition to doubling refinery capacity, the new configuration will allow the flexibility of processing a wider range in quality of crude oil,’ said Manuel Junco, vice president of downstream operations for Fluor.
Groundbreaking on the project is scheduled for early 2008 and completion and commissioning is expected in 2011.
