Jordan Fletcher is Knowledge Transfer Manager for Investment Communities in the Strategic Development directorate at Innovate UK KTN. He will be speaking on Wednesday 23 November at 3pm as part of a panel discussion exploring how to de-risk early-stage technology trials. We asked him about his participation at the event, as well as how organisations can deal with this winter’s energy crisis.
- What will you be speaking on at EMEX 2022?
We’re excited to be at EMEX as it’s a great way to engage with the business community and tell them about Innovate UK, the KTNs and other parts of UKRI. UKRI exists to support research and innovation across the UK, and reducing carbon emissions and environmental impacts is a key part of our work. Industrial emissions are over 35% of the global total, and yet recent research has shown that less than half of the emissions reductions needed to reach Net Zero by 2050 can be supplied by current technologies. We need to invest in R&D to deliver Net Zero, and this is where we can help.
- How does this help organisations in the drive to Net Zero?
We realise that for most large organisations, trialling new and early-stage technologies can be a challenge. Many people in the audience may not be fully aware of the many ways that Innovate UK, along with investors like Envestors, can help make it easier for companies and estate owners to trial new technologies, by providing not only funding, but also technical validation and other support.
- What advice do you have for companies and organisations impacted by the energy crisis?
Come and talk to us. The energy situation this year will be challenging for everyone, both businesses and consumers. We have been supporting technology innovators to help companies reduce energy use for many years. But it’s not just energy, we work with innovative technologies across the whole range of UK R&D. We can help you find solutions to your business challenges, and then work with you to trial and roll out those technologies in your estate.
- What do you think attendees will get from the event?
We’d like to let people know that the UK has a large and dynamic R&D ecosystem, with solutions across the whole range of business sectors. And that Innovate UK together with the KTNs and other departments within UKRI, are here to make it easier for those start-ups to develop and launch their technologies.
