AMEC has been appointed by BP to provide engineering services for the Tubular Bells and Kodiak discoveries in deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
The company will evaluate ways to influence the overall cost, weight, schedule and facility performance at the early stages of the engineering project.
The contract is AMEC's first deepwater work to be executed under a global agreement with BP for offshore engineering and project management services. It also follows the announcement in November 2008 of a contract for support on the BP Clair project in the UK North Sea.
Terrance Ivers, president of AMEC's Oil and Gas Americas, said: ‘Our team relishes the opportunity to meet the challenges inherent in development of a robust topsides design.'
While this is AMEC’s first deepwater work with BP, it has contributed to other BP projects in the past. The company was involved with BP’s Mardi Gras Transportation System to deliver deepwater Gulf of Mexico production to market. AMEC's role in the Mardi Gras project encompassed engineering and project management services on the onshore and offshore pipelines, facilities and platforms.
AMEC has also contributed to BP projects such as Clair in the UK's offshore west-of-Shetlands area and the Azeri, Chirag and Gunashli fields in the Caspian Sea.
